A capital built on 14 islands. Where medieval streets meet modern design, and the subway is the world's longest art gallery.

History
& Hype. ⚓

Stockholm is cool. Literally and figuratively. It is a city where 13th-century history coexists with Spotify headquarters and Acne Studios.

From the cobbled maze of Gamla Stan to the 30,000 islands of the archipelago, this guide explores the "Archipelago Grid"—a city where nature is never more than a few meters away.

The Golden Core. 🗝️

Gamla Stan is one of the best-preserved medieval city centers in Europe. It is a dense cluster of saffron, terracotta, and rust-colored buildings on the island of Stadsholmen.

Stortorget

The main square. It looks like a fairytale, but it was the site of the "Stockholm Bloodbath" in 1520. Now, it hosts the famous Christmas market.

Mårten Trotzigs Gränd

The narrowest street in Stockholm. At its tightest point, it is only 90 centimeters wide. It is 36 steps of pure claustrophobia (and a great photo op).

30,000 Islands

The Island Grid. 🌲

The city is just the gateway. The real Stockholm experience is taking a ferry out to the archipelago (*skärgården*). It is a maze of granite rocks, pine trees, and red cottages.

Fjäderholmarna:

The closest islands. Only a 20-minute boat ride from downtown. It is the perfect "micro-archipelago" experience if you are short on time. Smoked shrimp and cliffs.

Tunnelbana

The Cave Grid. 🚇

Stockholm's metro system is said to be the "world's longest art gallery." Over 90 of the 100 stations feature paintings, mosaics, and sculptures.

T-Centralen:

The blue line platform features massive blue vines painted directly onto the exposed bedrock. It feels like waiting for a train inside a prehistoric cave.
